Professional Furniture Restoration - Beginner Level - One Year

A one year course in furniture restoration, designed for would be furniture restorers, and dealers who want to do their own restoration.

A range of restoration skills is taught systematically in this studio based, hands on course. Three twelve week terms a year, roughly coinciding with school term times. Teaching covers dismantling and reassembling chairs, reconstructing furniture joints, repairing losses, staining, polishing and colour matching, and working with veneers, gilding on wood, and lacquer and japanning.  You will work on real antiques, supplied by you or us.

Teaching is one day a week, on Tuesdays, across three 12 week terms, with half term breaks roughly coinciding with local school terms. Full details in the course outline (see below).

Students can progress to a one year Advanced Level course.

The course fee is £3,993.

An initial deposit of £1,331 will secure your place. The deposit is refundable up to 1st September 2026, but not thereafter. Payment of the balance will be in two instalments of £1,331, on or before 30th September, and on or before 30th November. Early booking discount: if you pay the first instalment before 31st July 2026, and subsequent instalments are paid on time, a 10% discount will apply to your annual fee, which will be reflected in a final instalment of £931.70.
